A Case of Laboratory-Acquired Murine Typhus
We encountered a 32-year-old Korean woman who developed murine typhus in a laboratory. She worked as a technician in a laboratory for rickettsial disease. Immunofluorescence test with rickettsial antigen (R. typhi) was positive at 1: 320 on admission and 1: 1280 after 4 weeks. A dose of 200 mg of doxycycline for 7 days proved to be effective for her condition.

The present case dictates that know...
متن کاملMurine Typhus: An Important Consideration for the Nonspecific Febrile Illness
Murine typhus is a widely distributed flea-borne infection caused by Rickettsia typhi. Symptoms of murine typhus are nonspecific and mimic a variety of other infectious diseases. We herein report a case of murine typhus in an area where the broad use of DDT in the mid-20th century has now made it a rare disease. The patient described presented with headache, fever, and a faint macular rash. Ini...

Murine typhus has been increasingly recognized worldwide and is becoming a relevant differential diagnosis in febrile conditions. In Brazil, murine typhus has never received much attention. We present a recently diagnosed case and a literature review that suggests that the disease could be more prevalent in Southeastern Brazil than acknowledged until now.
